We believe that adventure should be in every trip whether it’s a spa retreat or one with more activity. It teaches you something about yourself and sparks your inner spirit that can become burdened by the stressors of daily life. Going outside your comfort zone takes you beyond a perceived limitation. We all have thoughts about what we can and can’t do and new experiences challenge those beliefs. Adventure comes in many ways so, ultimately,adventure is a mindset. It is saying “yes” to new experiences, to exploring and to absorbing life without editing. Some activities offered to foster adventure include hiking, horseback riding, eastern-based yoga classes, spontaneous excursions, and mindful wanderings. We may even sleep in an igloo under the northern lights!

We come together daily to break bread, engage in thoughtful conversations and participate in offered activities (which are always optional). We offer plenty of time for rest and reflection. However, we have found that the women who take an Atma Adventure find the meaningful relationships that are formed through our travel experience and the comfort that is found in connecting with life-minded souls to often be the most enriching piece of their experience. Every woman needs sisterhood, and we believe these adventures empower you to expand your circle of support and mentorship.

A cornerstone of our Transformation Through Travel philosophy lies in nature. We believe there is no better way to be inspired, recalibrate and come back to center than in nature. Henry David Thoreau spent two years secluded in the woods while writing Walden, his classic meditation on life and nature. Even in 1845, Thoreau sensed that nature can quiet the mind and improve your health. More than 150 years later, there is plenty of science on the healing power of nature. It boosts your mood, teaches us awareness and mindfulness, energizes you and reinforces feelings of connection with other living beings. Time in nature also brings us out of ourselves and our narrow concerns and connects us to a larger world and greater perspective. So we do as much as we possibly can outdoors on all of our retreats! We choose destinations that best showcase the extraordinary beauty and diversity of our earth without sacrificing the comforts of a good bed and supportive staff.

For this very reason Atma Adventures believes in emerging ourselves in the local culture.By doing so, not only do we learn about ourselves, we learn more about our destination's geography, history, social customs and issues facing the region.We believe in learning as much as we can about the region, its people and their joys and hardships so we have a better understanding of the world.Seeing the way others live provides perspective for one to understand and appreciate one's own life. Traveling allows you to witness first-hand how people in different cultures live, what type of work they do, what they eat , how they socialize, and all the little nuances of daily life. By emerging oneself in another's culture one will be faced with their own humanness. Understanding our sameness while learning about how we approach life differently helps us re-evaluate what is important in life.To help us gain access to the local community we find local guides who will share their stories and help to provide us with unique access to the local culture. We also meet with local changemakers who are making a positive impact in their community and, thus, the world.Our journey together is intended to provide a vehicle for you to not only see and learn about new places, but also learn more about yourself.
